ST Ursula’s College Kingsgrove will be opening its doors to prospective students and their parents, with the school set to host a traditional Open Day and exclusive Campus Tours on March 9, 3.30pm–6.00pm and March 10, between 9-11am, respectively.
It’s a chance to get a taste of life at the College and learn more about what’s on offer at St Ursula’s directly from current students and teachers.
After another successful year for HSC results, the College is excited to welcome visitors through the school gates to experience what makes the community so special and see how the College supports and empowers young women through education and faith. In 2021, results from HSC students saw the school place fourth in all Sydney systemic Catholic schools and 69th on the SMH list of top 150 schools in the state. Nine students placed first in the course within Sydney Catholic Schools and over 30 per cent of all students achieved an ATAR of over 90.
“What an impressive group of young women,” said St Ursula’s Principal, Mrs Mary Leask.
“We are immensely proud of their achievements, particularly in the face of two years of disruptions,” she said.
“They are proof that what we have built here at the College is a community that nurtures a well-rounded education and fosters a love of learning, which supports an aspirational view of the future within every student.”
One student who has emerged from the 2021 HSC with much to be proud of is 2021 College Dux, Cayla Atra, who was elated to receive her ATAR result and relieved to see her hard work pay off, especially after experiencing a lot of uncertainty and anxiety due to COVID-19, in addition to the usual HSC stresses.
Cayla’s ATAR was enough to secure her a place in the Bachelor of Vision Science / Master of Clinical Optometry course at the University of New South Wales, for which she was also offered an Academic Achievement Awards (AAA) Scholarship by the university. Medicine is a field she has always wanted to enter, as she enjoys helping others and describes herself as a lateral thinker with a natural skill set suited to such work.
“Ultimately, I attribute my success to having a tangible goal in mind and working hard to achieve it,” Cayla explained when asked what was behind her impressive results. “Remote learning is a challenge for everyone, but I found that I was able to draw on my resilience and my independent learning style to navigate the struggles posed by lockdown. I managed my time effectively and I was consistent by constantly reminding myself of my HSC goals.”
Mrs Leask said it would be remiss of her not to acknowledge the expert teachers at St Ursula’s, whose tireless work and passion for education helps position the school’s exemplary young women for success and enables their development into the best versions of themselves.
“They responded to the needs of their students during recent challenging years with empathy and flexibility, allowing them to emerge on the other side with minimal impact to their educational journey,” she said.
Cayla agreed: “I felt well supported by my teachers, as they catered to my learning style and provided me with the feedback and resources that I needed to excel”.
Those attending the Open Day and Campus Tours will get to see the teachers in action and learn about the programs the College has in place to help students strive towards achieving their goals, including the Newman Selective Gifted Education Program and Future Pathways Program. They will also get to tour the College’s facilities, which include newly renovated Visual Arts spaces, a recently installed outdoor gym and refurbished, modern classrooms.
“If you are considering St Ursula’s as the school of choice for your daughter, we invite you to join us for our Open Day or book a Campus Tour so you can experience first-hand everything St Ursula’s has to offer,” Mrs Leask said.
