Emerging artists’ forum

TWO exhibitions using photography, photo media and video to explore place, landscapes, gardens, memory, exchange, remembrance and loss, are on show at the Auburn Peacock Gallery.

Shivanjani Lal’s show Bhulano Nahi [forget me not] looks at the Auburn Botanic Gardens through the lens of her father’s memory and photos, working collaboratively with him.
She has explored personal family photos of the gardens, as well as creating new photo-based works that consider the role of public spaces in creating ties to community outside of the home.
Echoes in Soft Spaces: A Residency Reflection by Gillian Kayrooz, is the outcome of her professional development program in the Asia Pacific which was supported by the Create NSW’s Young Creative Leaders Fellowship received in late 2018.
On Saturday, February 29, from 1.30-3.30pm join Gillian to learn the process of Scanography, which she uses to create her video works. The hands-on workshop costs $5.
Both exhibiting artists will also lead a free forum on Artist Residencies on March 14, aimed at emerging creatives who may not have completed a residency before but are interested in how to take their career to the next level. Bookings for each event is through eventbrite.com.au.
The exhibitions are open until March 15 and the gallery is located at the Auburn Botanic Garden, on the corner of Chiswick and Chisholm Roads in Auburn, and is open Tuesday to Sunday, 11am to 4pm. Entry is free.
