Edgy art showcase pops up

TO celebrate its new seasonal range, Converse has given three artists, including Auburn’s Ibrahim Intwari, the opportunity to transform a blank canvas into a walk-through work of art.

With backgrounds in photography, visual storytelling, fashion and design, the artists were selected from the Converse All Stars program, a community of emerging creatives working with Converse around the world.
They were given seven days to reimagine the empty space, which features two rooms that journey through the different phases of the creative process.
Educated at Al Faisal College and Regents Park Public, Ibrahim says the experience has been wonderful.
“We had such great feedback last week when our pop-up experience opened,” he said.
“The first room was designed like a teenager’s bedroom with a desk, lava lamp, bean bags and welcoming rugs. People were encourage to sit down and reflect. We have photography works that actually show hidden messages and it’s all about discovering yourself as well as dreaming big.”
The first room also features a poem written by Ibrahim, ‘Into the Light’, as a way to inspire, while the second room is set up with a lush garden, since it’s a place to flourish and grow.
“I also developed a corner of the room into an interactive space, leaving post it notes with messages to strangers and asking them to respond; we had already received 20 or 30 by last week,” Ibrahim said.
The Converse CX Artist Series immersive experience is located at 68 Foveaux Street, Surry Hills, and is open to the public until Thursday, March 24.
