The Draft Lidcombe Town Centre Public Domain Plan, which was developed to ”guide the delivery of consistently high-quality public realm to reinforce the centre’s role in creating healthy, creative, culturally rich and socially connected communities”, has set out a range of revitalisation improvements.
While its implementation will depend on funding and contributions from planning agreements, construction should begin in 2024.
The plan will be implemented in stages with the first being the $7.6 million transformation of Joseph Street into a vibrant eat street. Design work is underway, with more detailed plans to be provided for community feedback in early 2024 before being finalised to progress to construction.
Cr Sabrin Farooqui welcomed the plan which would see increasing green coverage, streetscapes with natural landscape elements including planter boxes, hanging baskets, public art, improved street lighting, upgraded pedestrian crossings and “thoughtfully created” outdoor dining furniture.
“Joseph Street will be transformed into a vibrant eat street … I can’t wait,” she said.
“It was also good to see so many residents involved in the consultation process.
“The response has been fantastic and I would like to thank them from the bottom of my heart for their feedback.”
Cr Helen Hughes (pictured) also welcomed the “much-needed works” and said they were essential to keep the community connected and provide many health and well-being benefits.
She also requested a ‘Business Pride Project’, which would be established to further engage with businesses as the plan developed.
