Classes include Tai Chi on Tuesdays ($5), Line dancing on Tuesdays ($9), Indoor Bowls on Thursdays ($2) and Gentle Exercises on Fridays ($3).
A fan of the Tai Chi and Gentle Exercise classes, Thapanee Songsakul, 70, said she really missed the activities when the centre was closed during lockdown last year.
“It’s amazing what a couple of classes a week can do for your physical health and mental outlook,” she said.
“There’s a lot of stretching and breathing routines involved which really improves your sleep and gives your more energy.”
Thapanee says one member is 92 and still drives herself to classes every week.
“She is a great example of how exercise keeps you young as is one of our instructors who is 89 and very healthy and fit for her age,” she said.
“We also have a few daughters bringing their older mums to classes; it’s lovely to see.”
As well as enjoying the social get-togethers after the classes, participants enjoy day trips several times a year.
“We’ve been to Bowral, the Blue Mountains and many other scenic spots which we all enjoy and look forward to,” Thapanee said.
Apart from the small cost of the classes, there is an annual $15 registration fee which covers insurance and morning tea.
