Seeking outright win over Uni
THE Auburn Eagles will go into the Christmas break on top of the Sydney Shires Club Championship ladder after strong performances against Macquarie University.
The Eagles third and fourth grade teams have already secured the six points for a first innings win and will search for outright wins on day two, while the top two grades are on top in their matches as well.
First grade lost the toss and were invited to bat first by Macquarie Uni.
While opener Waleed Jalil fell nearly immediately, Sam Evans and captain Ardil Domingo consolidated with a 126 run partnership. Evans got his ton getting out for 110. Domingo scored 41, Zubair Jadoon, 42 and Shan Rana, 33.
Domingo declared 6(dec)-232. At stumps, Yasir Ali got their opener Ward and Macquarie finished with 1-29.
In second grade, Macquarie Uni were bowled out for 215.
Mona Park’s George Parry Oval is generally regarded as a 270 run par so this should be achievable by the Eagles batsmen next Saturday.
Playing at Macquarie University alongside the first grade Eagles, the third grade Eagles bundled Macquarie Uni for 119 with captain Mo Dewji taking 5-18.
At stumps, the Eagles were 3-171 with stalwarts Adam Young, 81 not out and Marlon Meurling, 6l. With the first innings win of 6 points in the bag, this team will want to get Macquarie University out again and take out the outright win 10 points.
In fourth grade, the Eagles sent Macquarie to the showers with only 85 runs to their name. The Eagles were 6-99, also securing the first innings’ six points and will want the outright 10 points next week.
