In his third year as a Canterbury Bankstown Council TAP (Talent Advancement Program) participant, Nicholas, 17, has been taking singing lessons since he was in Kindergarten.
Friends since primary school, Myah, 15, an accomplished dancer, studies singing with Nicholas under the tutelage of Leigh McCrae at Padstow High School.
For their performances, which were open to any age group, they sang ‘You Are The Reason’ in the Contemporary Vocal Duet category and ‘Only Us’ from the Dear Evan Hansen musical in the Musical Theatre category.
Nicholas attends Southern Cross College Burwood and JAKSA Performing Arts, while Myah goes to St Patricks Campbelltown and dances at Sandra Fleeton Performing Arts.
Mum Nicole says Nicholas is “always singing” and the wins have spurred on the young tenor to enter solo categories in next year’s Eisteddfod.
“He really enjoyed the Eisteddfod experience,” she said.
“He found the adjudicators to be very welcoming and positive and said they provided him with some great feedback for the future.
“He hopes to turn professional one day and this experience is a great step towards that goal.”
Other results include: Picnic Point’s Jensen Mazza, second in Vocal Performance (13 years) and second in Musical Theatre (13 years); Croydon Park’s Ibra Yade, highly commended in Vocal Performance (12 years) and winner in Musical Theatre (12 years); Croydon Park’s Lara Rose Carrozza, second in Musical Theatre (12 years); Riverwood’s Erika Stothard, third in Contemporary Dance (15 years); Riverwood’s Oriel Santoso, highly commended in Contemporary Dance (15 years), highly commended in Classical Ballet (15 years) and highly commended in The Wenkart Foundation Ballet Championship (15 years); and Lakemba’s Lucy Miller, third in Ballet Demi-Character (nine years).
Duet singing teens enter Eisteddfod in two categories just for fun but win both
THEY only entered two categories for fun but duet singers, Picnic Point’s Nicholas Otomancek and Padstow’s Myah Boyne, have come away with two wins in the Sydney Eisteddfod.
