Emergency services were called to the corner of Marion and Cantrell Streets after reports that the ute was well ablaze.
A witness said shortly before firefighters arrived on the scene, the vehicle rolled across four lanes of traffic and narrowly missed hitting a car parked in the driveway of a house.
