The driver, a 23-year-old man, suffered serious head injuries and fractures and was unable to be revived after the accident which happened near the intersection of Carson Street.
Weston Patterson who lives in a side street a couple of houses back from Horsely Road, was eating dinner when he heard the crash and dashed out onto the street to see the Holden Commodore “boomeranging” a power pole.
“I helped another man who was rendering first aid and having experience with the Rural Fire Service, did a risk assessment of the area,” Mr Patterson said.
“I don’t know who this other man was but I would like to commend him for his actions in trying to help this poor guy. I would also like to send a shout out to Bankstown police, NSW Ambulance and Fire Brigades (Bankstown and Revesby NSWFR); they worked so hard to try and save this young guy’s life.”
Mr Patterson said it was lucky no one else was killed as other witnesses reported he was driving too fast.
“It’s the third serious accident I’ve seen at that intersection and I know residents have been asking for traffic calming measures in the vicinity for years,” he said.
“I feel and pray for the first responders and also the family and friends who now have to say good bye and farewell a life cut too short.
“My life has been altered too. I was able to wash the blood off my hands but not the memories of trying to help him.”
Bankstown Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash and will prepare a report for the Coroner.
