They have now been handed out to St John divisions across NSW at a ceremony at Dooleys Waterview Club at Silverwater.
Volunteers from St John Ambulance Granville saved Naomi Martin after she went into cardiac arrest while with her husband Don at a hockey game at Qudos Bank Arena in 2013.
Shortly after the incident, Naomi and Don donated two AEDs to Granville Combined, one of those machines went on to save another patron at Qudos Bank Arena in 2015.
Over the years, Naomi and Don spent much of their time supporting St John Ambulance, becoming ambassadors for Granville Combined.
Sadly in late 2021, Naomi passed away and in early 2022, Don decided to honour her – for each of the seven years St John gave Naomi, he wanted to provide a defibrillator to St John.
“This story is much more than a story about a donation,” St John Ambulance (NSW) Granville Combined Division Superintendent Isabelle Moutia said.
“It’s a story about a miraculous save that led to an extraordinary relationship between the Martin family and St John Ambulance, a relationship that has seen other lives saved and many more into the future.
“Naomi was an inspirational woman. We are glad we can help cherish her memory and legacy along with her husband Don and family.”
