He believes he was targeted by vandals after being seen leading a chant of ‘From the river to see, Palestine will be free’ at a pro-Palestine Rally in Melbourne ahead of the store attack.
“The arson attack will not waver my calling for peace and will not silence me,” Mr Tayeh said in a statement.
“I am deeply troubled by the spread of rumours suggesting that we harbour antisemitic sentiments. I cannot stress enough that this could not be further from the truth.
“My participation in pro-Palestinian rallies was driven by a desire for peace and a ceasefire, not violence or division.”
Burgertory General Manager Badr Khabbaz said despite Mr Tayeh’s disappointment over the incident which he was trying to put behind him, the Yagoona store was now in full swing after overcoming early challenges of locating quality suppliers.
“It’s a fantastic area with food trucks on site, a sitting area, a pool table and indoor eating area, and customers have been loving the food,” he said.
With its devilish image, Burgertory is known for its colourful buns and outlandishly large, flavoursome burgers.
‘Sinners’ can choose from a wide variety of premium beef or southern fried chicken burgers that come with fresh vegetables and house-made sauces, while ‘saints’ can devour Burgertory’s newly-launched plant-based Sinless range.
Burgertory’s most popular vegan burger is the Envy, which is made with plant-based Beyond Meat, while any burger on the menu can be made with gluten-free buns and house-made vegan mayo.
Found at 422 Hume Highway, Yagoona, Burgertory is open Sunday to Saturday from 11.30am till late, with online orders available via UberEats.
Dream to unite public over love of burger
A FIRE-BOMBING at one of his stores in Victoria early last month has not slowed down the ambitions of Burgertory owner Hash Tayeh who opened his 18th outlet and first in NSW on the Hume Highway at Yagoona a fortnight ago.
