Get first shot of Covid-19 vaccine
The community event was one of many led by the Western Sydney Local Health District (WSLHD) Covid-19 Outreach Vaccination Team, which has been providing Covid-19 vaccinations to vulnerable and priority populations across western Sydney.
Refugee groups, culturally and linguistically diverse communities, and people experiencing or at risk of homelessness, are among those on the agenda for Project Lead Jannelle Masa.
“We engaged with the mosque who were receptive to having us there. We collaborated closely with their General Manager to facilitate logistics for the day including arranging Health Interpreters for the Turkish and Arabic community,” Ms Masa said.
“The day was a success and it was wonderful to support this culturally diverse group in having access to the vaccine.”
The Australian National Imams Council (ANIC) has confirmed the Covid-19 vaccine is permissible according to Islamic teaching and the Outreach Vaccination Team will return to the mosque in July for recipients to get their second dose of the vaccine.
Over the past two weeks, the team has vaccinated 418 people as it continues to work with other organisations to reach priority groups – such as people with a disability as well as refugees and asylum seekers.
