Revesby Rovers FC is asking the community to donate new and used boots in good condition to ship over to needy children in Sri Lanka.
The fourth year they have undertaken a collection drive and shipping to remote Indigenous communities here or in Africa, Rovers Vice President Sonia Mira estimates they have donated over 1,000 pairs of boots, along with shin pads, socks, hoodies, jackets, shirts and jerseys, especially after they modernised their black and white clobber adding a touch of gold to celebrate their 70th anniversary a couple of years ago.
“Thanks to our generous sponsors we were able to update our gear in our golden anniversary year and thought there may be less advantaged clubs that would benefit from our pre-loved clothing,” Mira said.
“We contacted Kids Aid Australia who invited us to donate our items to a needy indigenous community in the Northern Territory, then Africa and now Sri Lanka.
“It was so easy to do and one of the most rewarding things we’ve done.
“To see the looks on the faces of the children with the new gear is priceless.”
You can drop off your new or used boots or other gear at the Rovers’ clubhouse in Amour Park, Revesby, for the next two Wednesdays and Thursdays, 5.30-7pm.
