Donate $50 for battler gift, hamper and lunch

DESCRIBING the lead-up to Christmas as exciting and a great opportunity to help a battler, Padstow Community Care manager Grant Heslop is urging members of the community to contribute to their donations appeal this week.

“Just a $50 donation will provide a Christmas hamper, gift and free Christmas Day lunch for an individual who is doing it tough,” he explained.
“A lot of people who have come to us, as well as partners Panania Salvation Army and Padstow Baptist Community Church, over the last 12 months, have experienced domestic violence, food insecurity, medical related issues, homelessness or chronic loneliness.
“It is a wonderful opportunity for our volunteers when they deliver the hampers and presents to remind people that they are cared for and not forgotten at Christmas.
“There are many wonderful conversations and many thanks conveyed to our volunteers. Plenty of smiles are seen as well when the children receive their presents.”
Padstow Community Care also hosts a free traditional Christmas lunch, with about 160 people joining in last year for a wonderful day of quality food and fun.
If you are alone or would like to celebrate the day with your local community, then join the group for a big Christmas lunch next Wednesday, December 25.
The Celebration Service starts at 9.30am and the community lunch begins from 11.30am. Everyone is invited.
Be sure to RSVP for catering numbers by calling 9772 2299.
