Dogs lose way in Dragon fire

THE Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs sunk to new depths and narrowly avoided a seven-year low as the Dragons scored a 32-12 Round 9 win against them on Sunday.

The Bulldogs scored two late tries against the run of play to avoid being the first team since Cronulla in 2014, to go scoreless in four games in a season.
They have failed to score a point three times already this year.
Jake Averillo and Kyle Flanagan filled the halves on Sunday and they are both only young still, despite Flanagan playing an entire season with the Roosters last year.
Bulldogs dominated possession in the second half yet found themselves unable to crack St George Illawarra’s wall until Renouf Atoni and Nick Meaney bagged opportunistic tries to salvage some pride.
Corey Allan suffered damage to his neck and shoulder when he was taken over the sideline by four Dragons defenders and play was stopped for several minutes before he was taken from the field in the 59th minute for further treatment.
Following the match, Coach Trent Barrett confirmed that Lachlan Lewis had suffered lung damage and had also been taken to hospital after leaving the field in the 65th minute.
“There was a bit of carnage there. We’re not sure how they are, fingers crossed,” he said.
Obviously disappointed with the game’s result, he added: “I thought our execution was poor. Our discipline was poor; across the board it was poor.
“We’re in a bit of a hole [still missing some players] but we have to be better.”
The Bulldogs next take on the Raiders on Saturday from 3pm at Suncorp Stadium, Brisbane.
