Dogs licking wounds after loss

THE Bankstown Sports Bulldogs bowlers worked persistently to restrict Sydney Uni to a reasonable 234 but they couldn’t recover from last week’s disappointing start.

Left arm spinner Ben Taylor again stole the limelight with 5-73 from a disciplined and fruitful 25 overs spell with his incisive effort preventing the home side from amassing a huge score and keeping the Bulldogs barking.
All this wonderful work proved futile however as Bankstown capitulated for a paltry 73.
Run machine Nick Carruthers shone like a beacon in the night with a defiant 29 but had no worthwhile support. The Bulldogs second innings started off so much better and at stumps they were a very healthy 3-131.
Versatile Nathan McAndrew looked in great touch and hammered 45 unconquered in a stylish knock.
Once again Daniel Nicotra proved to be a stumbling block to the bowlers and his majestic 48 not out delighted the appreciative crowd.
Next Saturday is the last of the season and the Bulldogs face the Blacktown Warriors away at Joe McAleer.
A Bulldogs spokesperson said it had been a “topsy turvy season”, but all teams had suffered the same fate.
“Clubs are looking forward to a much more settled season next year but the association has done remarkably well to enable so much of the great game to be played,” he said.
