Randwick-Petersham batted first and amassed 5-255 at Memorial Oval on a beautiful summer’s day.
Daniel Nicotra was the Bulldogs bowling star and claimed the first 3 wickets to fall securing the first with the help of ever reliable safe hands of Brad Simpson. Nathan McAndrew caught the next and the Sydney Thunder rep has had a wonderful season. Nicotra did all the work with the 3rd gleefully accepting a sharp caught and bowled finishing with 3-44 from 6 penetrative overs. As usual McAndrew was superb with the ball and beat the bat frequently in his 1-21 from 10 overs and was the epitome of accuracy in a magnificent spell. In reply Daniel Solway fell for 14 which was a bitter blow as the NSW Blues rep has scored runs all season. The Bulldogs rallied with run machine Nick Carruthers paving the way ripping into the Randwick attack in a blistering display of forceful strokeplay and his innings really got the Bulldogs barking. The crowd roared its approval as he smashed 6 boundaries and 4 towering maximums. Alas he fell just short of a century for 94 in a memorable knock. Zeeshaan Ahmed has had a wonderful season and he contributed a valuable 41. Mitch Brown was just slipping into top gear but in a severe blow, was run out for 38. The lower order rallied but just failed to reach the target and ended on 7-251. It was a great game and the finish a cliff-hanger indeed.
