Dogs barking sad over loss

CANTERBURY Bankstown Bulldogs hung in there and never gave up but the Panthers were boosted by the return of Nathan Cleary and powered past them, 44-18, on Sunday.

It marked the fifth time this season the Bulldogs have given up more than 40 points in a game.
A try to recalled centre Paul Alamoti four minutes before the break, which former Panther Matt Burton converted, was all the Bulldogs had to celebrate in the first half.
While they made a more positive start to the second period, it was the Panthers who were first on the board again and added a seventh on the hour mark to stretch the lead to 40-6.
Canterbury finally found some joy in the last 10 minutes, with Jake Averillo scooting over and Jeral Skelton scoring his first try but it was too little too late. In good news, though, Bulldogs have announced the signing of South Sydney Rabbitoh Liam Knight effective immediately until the end of 2024.
Football General Manager Phil Gould said they were delighted to have him on board.
“He adds depth and experience to our forward stocks,” Gould said.
Coach Cameron Ciraldo said he was just as proud of his side in their tussle against the Panthers as he has been for a long time.
“The scoreline, I obviously don’t like letting in that many points, but the way the game started and the adversity we had, I am really proud of how we hung on and finished strong,” he said.
Bulldogs next travel to Bundaberg to take on the Dolphins from 2pm on Sunday, with Josh Addo-Carr (hamstring), Jacob Preston (illness) and Viliame Kikau (pectoral) good chances of being available after missing Round 21.
