Some of the services offered include child and adolescent sexual assault counselling; domestic violence support; family support and preservation; kinship care; long day care for children aged two to five years; transitional accommodation for people who are homeless or at risk of being homeless; and temporary family care and youth support.
“The centre was set up in Auburn in 1974 to help support the influx of migrants and now we assist over 100 cultures,” a spokesperson said.
“We have developed so many links with the Auburn community and they would be at a loss – as we would be – if we were to relocate.”
The staff speak a range of languages and know the local community very well.
“Our long day care centre manager has been here for over 30 years and is now teaching the second generation of children that first walked through our doors,” the spokesperson said.
“In fact, the longevity of the staff is amazing; another woman has been there for 30 years too and another for 25.
“It’s because they love the centre as well as the locals who have become part of our family; we never want to leave Auburn.”
