Day on green sees 80 vie for honours

A FIELD of 80 bowlers (pictured) from 16 different clubs, have gathered at Revesby Workers’ Bowling Club for the annual Olsens Graded Mixed Triples event and a fun-filled day.

Three games of 11 ends were played before lunch, then back on the green for the final afternoon game before enjoying well-earned refreshments, the presentation of trophies and a raffle as well as the auctioning off of signed World and Australian representative bowls shirts.
Adding to his long list of achievements, Peter Chown was in magical form when he won the Major Singles Title at the weekend, defeating a previous winner Col Heaslip.
Club President Denis Gallant said all bowlers enjoyed their days on the green and now look forward to catching up with the other clubs again at the Terry Raper Melanoma Charity Day in September.
“The first few ends were even but Chownie adjusted well to the overcast conditions and eventually came out the winner,” Denis said.
“Bowls in a great game for all ages, combining eye/hand coordination and tactical play to attain victory.
“It’s an inexpensive game ideally suited to someone who may have retired from other sports but would still like to compete without the physical contact.
“So, if you’ve recently hung up the boots or put the bat in the shed, why not have a crack at lawn bowls?”
