Young females often face more barriers when it comes to participating in sport including limited opportunities and programs available, lack of encouragement and lack of confidence.
With this in mind, North Bankstown Soccer Club is hosting the 10-week Dads & Daughters program which has been developed by Football NSW and Macquarie University.
Running at Graf Park until June 23 but returning in terms 3 and 4, and for girls aged five to 12 years, each week includes a 30-minute education session followed by a 60-minute practical session.
As well as being introduced to the uniting game of football in a social and judgement-free environment, dads learn how to be their daughter’s ‘personal coach’ on and off the field, and have fun while boosting theirs and their daughter’s physical, social, emotional and mental health.
It’s only been four weeks but Sandeep says the program has brought he and Sachii closer together.
“It’s been a confidence booster for both of us,” he said.
“We are getting better at soccer and the info sessions are really great, all designed to empower girls.
“We’re really enjoying it and having our time together; I would certainly recommend it to other dads.”
Cost is $100 which can be covered with an Active Kids Voucher.
