She won gold in the Women’s Road Race and silver in the Women’s Individual Time Trial last week after judges reversed her initial gold win.
Considered one of Australian cycling’s great young prospects, Will – who thought she had won gold in the Women’s Time Trial – and great friend Lauren Bates, from the ACT, joined hands towards the finish line but after officials examined the finish line photo, the result was reversed with Bates taking the gold and Will clinching the silver.
The medal wins add to Will’s growing reputation after she dominated the Oceania Track Cycling Championships by taking out the Omnium, Madison and Team Pursuit titles in March.
She has been selected for the Australian team for the World Junior Track Championships in Cali, Colombia from August 23.
After joining the LACC as a four-year-old, Will has trained at Lidcombe Oval for many years during the week and then racing on Friday nights.
She said she was thrilled to be selected to race for Australia.
“It’s been a lifelong dream. Can’t wait to see how I keep going internationally,” she said.
LACC President Jason Lee said: “We are very proud and excited for Keira to both represent the club itself and to truly represent the green and gold colours for Australia.
“She will certainly be an inspiration to all young cyclist on the road and in the velodrome.”
