Cumberland Jobs and Youth Expo on Tuesday

YOUNG people are being encouraged to ‘Trade Up to a Better Future’ at the upcoming Cumberland Jobs and Youth Expo at the Granville Centre on Tuesday, June 13.
In its third year, the annual expo is a one-stop shop for employment and career needs, featuring a diverse range of industries and sectors that will provide different job prospects, educational programs and vocational training options available in the local area.
Mayor Lisa Lake said that the expo aimed to provide employment opportunities and address the challenges faced by young people in today’s competitive job market.
“We know that securing employment can be challenging, with the average unemployment rate in Cumberland higher when compared with the national average,” she said.
“There are many factors that contribute to these employment figures, including language barriers and knowledge about employment opportunities.

“We hope that our community members will feel inspired to come along and take advantage of the resources and information available so they can trade up to a better career.”
Held from 9.30am to 3pm, the expo will be packed with resources and information sessions including assistance with resume writing and job searching, as well as a number of seminars and workshops including Connecting Women to Trades, Dress for Success, and How to Obtain an Apprenticeship.
The event will bring together career experts, educational institutions such as TAFE and universities, training providers and several local employers who will be providing career opportunities in the areas of landscaping, sales and civil construction.
Auburn Youth Centre Executive Officer Dean de Haas said he hoped the expo would help inspire young people with their career options.
“We really want to provide young people with positive pathways so that they feel supported, find opportunities and make good decisions about their career, this is what the expo is all about,” he said.
The Cumberland Jobs and Youth Expo is organised by the Auburn Youth Centre Inc (AYC) in partnership with Cumberland Council, Workforce Australia and Asuria.
