Crowd to enjoy run in sun at Festival of Feet

THE sun should be shining this Sunday (July 14) as hundreds in the community take part in the annual Georges River Festival of the Feet.

Hosted by Western Districts Joggers and Harriers at Mirambeena Regional Park in Georges Hall, the event is ideal for keeping up with your grandchildren, according to Westies legend Joan Eisenhuth.
“My experience with racing by myself is that you can have race jitters as your family is on the sideline,” she said.
“But Festival of the Feet caters for the whole family so you can run or walk alongside them.
“I have raced and supported my children in 100km events, Ironman events and now my grandchildren in fun runs and it is one of the most rewarding parts of being a parent and grandparent to see their joy when they cross the finish line.”
Joan said when the children get their participation medal, they feel like winners.
“The most important part is teaching them that keeping fit doesn’t stop; if Nan and Pop can do it, so can they,” she said.
The festival offers a 21.1km half marathon along with 3km, 7km and 14km fun runs.
There will be a canteen plus barbecue, coffee truck and stalls, with funds raised supporting charities.
Everyone who finishes the race will receive a medal; registrations are invited at westiesjoggers.com.
