Crowd returns to clubs first time in three years

IT will be out of our driveways and back into the clubs this ANZAC Day following two years of pandemic impacted tributes to honour our past and present servicemen and women.

Bankstown RSL Sub-branch President Terry Corcoran says it’s going to be a fantastic opportunity for veterans and their families to enjoy a long overdue catch up and reminisce over loved ones lost.
He invites all to the ANZAC Day ceremony on Monday, April 25, from 7.30am at The Court House Reserve followed by joining the march in the city and then taking advantage of the all-day dining specials at Bankstown RSL.
“Air Vice Marshal Kym Osley AM CSC will be the guest speaker at the service and is sure to inspire and uplift us all,” he said.
The Ode will be sounded at 6pm inside the club for members and guests to pay their respects.
However, as in past years, there will be no Two-Up at the club.
“We’re very excited and visiting schools in the lead up to ANZAC Day for a bit of a history lesson to explain to students what it’s all about,” Corcoran said.
“Along with everyone else, we’ll be praying for a sunny ANZAC Day and a great attendance at the march.”
Campsie RSL Sub Branch President Ken Button will lead the dawn service at the post from 7am with a traditional hot breakfast to follow at the club from 7.45am.
“Tickets to the breakfast will be handed out at the service and we will also have a piper,” Button said.
“We love that we’ve got back ANZAC Day but not planning a proper march due to the age of some of the members.
“We’ll enjoy the service, the breakfast and maybe hang around the club for lunch too as they’ve got the best Yum Cha in town.”
Offering two days of fun and games, Padstow RSL invites fans to try their luck at ‘Twilight Two-Up’ on Saturday, April 23, 5-8pm, ahead of ‘the best game of Two-Up in Sydney’ on Monday, April 25, 12-4pm, with $5 house spirits and selected wines and beer.
This will follow their 6am service at the Padstow War Memorial and free breakfast back at the club.
Chester Hill and Bass Hill Sub-branch members will gather at Leicester St for the 6.30am march and ANZAC Day ceremony at the cenotaph followed by a ticketed breakfast back at the club.
Panania RSL Sub-branch members will meet at the cenotaph at Panania Station for the 4.30am dawn service before heading to Panania Diggers for a $5 hot breakfast and Two-Up from 9am-1pm.
You can also catch a game of Two-Up at the Mill Hotel on ANZAC Day from 12pm to sundown plus all-day dining and Kids Eat Free on Mondays, with doors open from 10am.
