A MAN was killed and a woman remains in a critical condition after two separate accidents involving elderly pedestrians.

Elderly man killed, woman critical after falling under a bus

Just before 10am on Monday, police were called to the intersection of Georges River Road and Milton Street, Ashfield, after reports of a pedestrian struck while walking across a crossing.

An 89-year-old man was located unconscious at the scene but later died.

The male driver was been taken to Canterbury Hospital for mandatory blood and urine tests.

About 7.15pm on Tuesday, emergency services were called to a bus stop on New Canterbury Road, Dulwich Hill, after reports a pedestrian was hit by a bus. 

When police arrived, they found a 69-year-old woman with serious leg injuries.

Police have been told the woman was waiting at the bus stop before falling forward and going underneath an oncoming bus.

She was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where she remains in a critical condition.

The 59-year-old bus driver underwent mandatory testing.

Any witnesses or anyone with dashcam vision relevant to the investigation is urged to come forward.

Inquiries are continuing into both accidents.
