Cricket umpire legends win award recognition

BANKSTOWN umpires Grahame Bell, Bradley Bristow and Victor Gauci have been recognised at the Shires, Premier and NSW cricket awards.

Grahame won the Sydney Shires’ Most Improved Umpire of the Year for 2021-22. Based on marks in captains’ reports, it reflects sustained application to improving expertise and match management.
A long-standing Bankstown umpire who is also active in Sydney Women’s Grade, Grahame is a mentor to newer umpires, who he is regularly paired with in Shires matches.
Bradley achieved the milestone of standing in 100 Sydney Cricket Association games.
A regular in Grade and Shires umpiring since 2013 and treasurer of the Bankstown umpires’ association, he has been a stalwart of Bankstown cricket since 1999 on and off the field as a coach, player, umpire and Bankstown cricket association executive committee member.
Victor was awarded the Community Match Official of the Year Award from Cricket NSW, for the way he led by example and championed inclusive, safe, fair and enjoyable cricket for all.
The Vice President of the Bankstown umpires’ association has been active in local cricket for more than 25 years and is a regular in junior cricket, Sydney Women’s Grade and the NSW Youth Championships.
