Highway Patrol officers allegedly attempted to stop a car after it travelled through a red light at the intersection of Guildford Road and Woodville Road, Guildford, about 11pm, and when it failed to stop, initiated a pursuit.
The vehicle was pursued into Chiswick Road where it will be alleged the vehicle reached speeds of up to 140kmh, before the pursuit was terminated due to safety.
A short time later, it collided with a retaining wall at the intersection of Clyde Street and Chiswick Road before crashing into a parked car and then coming to rest on its side.
Police said the driver, a 37-year-old man, attempted to run from the scene but was restrained by a nearby resident who he allegedly assaulted. The 27-year-old man suffered minor injuries.
The driver, who allegedly threw a small bag of cannabis at police before he was arrested, underwent an oral fluid test that returned a positive reading to an illicit substance.
He was charged with seven offences including, police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm), possess prohibited drug and assault. His driver’s licence was also suspended.
Crashed vehicle after police flee
A MAN from Yagoona who allegedly crashed his car moments after a police pursuit was terminated, attacked a resident who tried to stop him fleeing the crash scene last Friday night.
