Covid traces found

Residents urged to be vigilant with virus detected in sewerage system.

RESIDENTS in Lidcombe, Newington, Rookwood, Silverwater, Sydney Olympic Park and Wentworth Point are being urged to be vigilant in monitoring for Covid-19 symptoms with fragments of the virus detected in sewerage system.

NSW Health is aware of recent Covid-19 cases – several returned overseas travellers – who live in the Homebush catchment where the fragments have been detected, and says people who are recently recovered from the virus can continue to shed virus fragments into the sewerage system for several weeks even after they are no longer infectious.
“Nonetheless, everyone in the area is being asked to be vigilant in monitoring for symptoms, and if they appear get tested and isolate immediately until they receive a negative result, a spokesperson said.
Anyone experiencing even the mildest of cold-like symptoms should immediately get tested, then isolate until a negative result is received.
The alert comes as the NSW Government began accelerating the rollout of the Covid-19 vaccine with more sites across the state now taking bookings for people aged 40 to 49.
Around 23,500 people aged between 40 and 49 have already been invited to book a vaccine at a NSW Health clinic, with 12,000 people already booked for the Pfizer jab.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian said it was great to see such a positive response from the public to register for the vaccine.
“I want to thank the more than 120,000 people aged 40 to 49 who have already registered their interest to receive the Pfizer jab. We are working hard to ensure you receive the vaccine as soon as possible,” she said.
