Couple celebrating 60 years of wedded bliss

LIVING in the same house in Bass Hill since 1975, Joe and Margaret Brennan celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary earlier this month after marrying at St Patricks Kogarah on April 15, 1961.

Born in Ireland, Joe was keen to introduce his new bride to the family back home and so not long after their wedding, they set off for a short trip but ended up staying for 10 years and arrived back in Australia with their four children in tow – Kevin, Peter, Jennifer and Robert.
Now grandparents to eight and great grandparents to two, Joe and Margaret are members of Bankstown Sports and Club Condell Park and love gardening, walking and pottering around the house.
Joe worked as a bulldozer driver and was also a long-term employee at Bankstown Library; Margaret worked in the office at Betterbake in Milperra for 20 years.
The avid travellers who have visited Europe, the United Kingdom, New Zealand and elsewhere, were keen to return to our closest neighbour last year before Covid struck.
“Joe’s sister and husband are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary and they were going to come here from Ireland and then we were planning on a celebratory New Zealand trip but those plans are on hold until maybe next year,” Margaret said.
“We can’t believe how lucky we have been to have had such a blessed marriage and my advice to younger couples would be to keep taking care of each other and don’t take each other for granted.”
