Country song-writing star wins Star Maker final spot

SHE got her start with a Tammy Wynette song at age nine but Padstow’s Kiara Rodrigues will be showcasing one of her own songs when she takes on nine of Australia’s best in the 43rd Toyota Star Maker competition at the Tamworth Country Music Festival in January.

More than 500 artists have performed as finalists over the past 42 years and Kiara hopes to join Star Maker alumni, including Keith Urban, Lee Kernaghan, Beccy Cole and James Blundell along with the latest stars to successfully use the launchpad – with Kaylee Bell, Brad Cox, Blake O’Connor and Max Jackson among them.
Winning the Junior Country Aristocrat Entertainer of the Year category in 2011 after winning the overall competition at Tamworth in 2006 at age nine, Kiara was most recently nominated five times in the songwriting category, taking home the Comedy/Novelty Song of the Year with her song, ‘Mr Vanity’.
“It’s a huge honour to be among the Top 10 selected to compete in the Toyota Star Maker competition in 2023,” she said.
“It was great to get back to Tamworth in April after the Covid break, the crowds were smaller but the atmosphere was as electric as always and I’m hoping it will be even better in January.
“I really want to take my career to the next level and I’m hoping a win will definitely help me to achieve that.”
