Country music star wins awards for latest album

HE comes across as an everyday guy whose latest tune is even about how a good bartender can be a necessity but make no mistake, Sefton’s Andy Penkow is one of Australia’s vocalist superstars making his mark on the world with his award-winning country classics.

The Golden Guitar nominee has had 10 No.1 singles on the Australian Country Radio Charts and last week scooped up a raft of new awards at the Tamworth Country Music Festival, receiving a Songwriters Association Award, People’s Choice Award and an Independent Country Music Award.
He did 114 shows last year and has a new single coming out on February 23, ‘Bottom Shelf’ and his fourth studio album ‘Shades on Me’ in May.
Internationally, his latest album, ‘Love, Lies & Dirty Dishes’ peaked at No.1 on the Canadian Radio Charts, No.3 on the Australian ARIA Charts and No.2 on the Australian Apple iTunes Charts; his song ‘Ghostly Gums’ peaked at No.2 on the UK Country Radio Charts.
He was also recently announced as a brand ambassador for the Australian Koala Foundation.
The winner of five Purple Guitars, including 2023 Best Male Vocal and Best Album Winner, and Most Popular New Male Artist of 2022 by the Independent Country Music Association, says it’s been a crazy couple of years.
Loving life as an entertainer, he says he was destined to be a singer.
“My grandmother was an opera singer so it’s definitely in the blood,” he said.
“I got involved in music at a young age and it’s definitely kept me out of trouble.”
He said it was amazing when fans said his music had changed their lives.
“It’s a very satisfying feeling,” he said.
“It’s a tough industry but music is my family and I feel very lucky to be able to do what I do.”
