Congo Kickers recruiting young players

STARTING this month, Congo Kickers is an exciting program for boys and girls aged three to six years held at Lidcombe’s Phillips Park every Saturday from 10am.

The Lidcombe Congregational Church Soccer Club (CSC) program introduces children to soccer in a fun environment by specialising in activities which encourage them to develop their physical and social skills in a team environment.
Do you have a daughter or grand-daughter that really wants to play soccer but you can’t commit to the Sunday playing times?
Lidcombe CSC is also looking to field girls only teams in the Saturday competition and invites all, including open-age female players, to get in touch.
Lidcombe CSC President James May says the club was formed in 1939 by Edward ‘Pop’ and Hazel James and one all-age side represented Lidcombe in the Protestant Churches Soccer Football competition.
“The ‘Congregational’ part of the name was shortened to ‘Congs’ or ‘Congos’ from the very first match and continues today with the club’s motto ‘Once a Congo … Always a Congo’,” he said.
“The James family have been synonymous with the club, with five generations donning the ‘Blue and Gold’; there have been many families playing as we are truly family-oriented.”
James says the club features many siblings and even two or three sets of twins playing in five junior teams and mens team plus there are five families that are children of former players.
“It’s a wonderful club and we would like to invite more families to join in the fun,” he said.
