Premier Gladys Berejiklian said she was utterly disgusted with the thousands of people who attended the protest and “whose selfish actions have compromised the safety of all of us”.
“The protesters have shown utter contempt for their fellow citizens who are currently doing it tough,” she said.
“This type of activity during lockdown will not be tolerated and the full force of the law will be brought against anyone who engages in this type of illegal activity.”
Police are appealing for help to identify and prosecute people who attended the protest.
They have already received more than 5,500 reports from the public and “will follow up every report”.
Deputy Commissioner Mal Lanyon says police have already started to identify attendees and will continue for as long as required to identify and prosecute all those who broke the law.
So far 63 people – aged between 18 and 69 – have been charged with various offences, including assault police officer in execution of duty, resist officer in execution of duty, wilfully obstruct officer in execution of duty and not comply with noticed direction.
