Firefighters were called to the building about 1.47am and extinguished the blaze at the back of the building which engulfed the rear deck, stopping it spreading to the rest of the building.
Police and firefighters are investigating the incident, which is being treated as a suspected act of vandalism.
Mayor Bilal El-Hayek said he was “saddened to hear about the fire”.
“This centre is a meeting hub for the local community and many will be affected by its closure,” he said.
“Any type of vandalism which impacts on our residents will not be tolerated and we will be working closely with police to stamp it out.
“Anyone who may have seen or heard anything in that area late Saturday night or Sunday morning are encouraged to contact police.”
