Clubs’ grant boost win

Sydney Sirens Womens Ice Hockey Club will share a $46,800 grant with eight other local sporting groups.

COVERING sports played on grass and track, as well as on ice, a diverse group of local clubs and organisations are set to receive a boost thanks to the 2019-20 Local Sport Grant Program.
Nine groups will receive a share of more than $46,800, including the Dulwich Hill Bicycle Club Inc, Canterbury Ice Hockey Club, Sydney Arrows Ice Racing Club, Belfield Bowling and Recreation Club, Sydney Sirens Womens Ice Hockey Club, Belmore Eagles Football Club, Canterbury Touch Football Association and the Nepalese Cricket Association Australia.
The grants will go towards subsiding sport fees, upgrading sporting facilities and purchasing uniforms and equipment.
Congratulating the successful applicants, State MP for Canterbury, Sophie Cotsis, also praised the “tireless efforts of all participants, many of whom are organised by committed and dedicated volunteers”.
“Since the Covid-19 pandemic, a number of sporting facilities have temporarily shut,” she said.
“However, our community has been doing an exceptional job at complying with Covid-19 safety measures and we are slowly seeing sporting restrictions slowly relaxing.
“This grant funding will assist sport teams and organisations to prepare for the return of children, individuals and families to regular sport.”
