Young Revesby Rover Jerome, 11, was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2020 and has undergone intense treatment and therapy but is now a healthy and very determined boy who is getting stronger day by day.
He spends his Saturday mornings helping coach his brother Levi’s team, Under 11 Red, and all players love having Jerome at Amour Park on weekends, according to Rovers Vice President Sonia Mira.
“Wanting to do something to help, the Under 11 Red coaches Roy and Mark Azzi came up with the fundraising idea to help others that have not been as fortunate as Jerome,” Sonia said.
“The fundraiser kicked off at 11am on Saturday but not before a guard of honour was held for Jerome, with his team getting the win and his brother scoring a goal for him.”
Revesby Rovers donated beanies and t-shirts with 100 per cent of the proceeds going to the fundraiser and there was also a raffle, silent auction, an amazing cake stall, jumping castle, face painting, soccer darts and a host of other fun activities.
“We are a very close knit community with many young families and siblings at Rovers,” Sonia said.
“It only took a quick request for our community to band together and dig deep; the donations were unbelievable, the cake donations endless.
“Fundraiser host Jerome was overjoyed all day, smiling, thanking and high-fiving everyone. He is the most humble young man and we pray to see him on the field again one day.
“The Rovers family lives by the motto ‘we rise by lifting others’ and this day exemplified everything that our club is.”
