Club inviting more to take a swing at course

On the hunt for more members, Sefton Golf Club’s Wayne Hampton, Darren Kassis, Club Captain Geoff Kelleher and Jack Hampton (Wayne’s Dad) get in some mid-week practice.

WITH the aim of making everyone feel as welcome as possible, Sefton Golf Club is on the hunt for members and has a lot to offer.

Affiliated with Golf Australia and Golf NSW, members – about 26, although numbers have been as high as 50 since its founding in 1995 – tee off about 6.30am every Saturday.
Club captain Geoff Kelleher says the course only takes three hours which is ideal if you want to get your game of golf in early, leaving you the rest of the day for other pursuits.
“We run a club championship every four weeks, a match play championship, foursome championship and a two-ball aggregate, with the first Saturday of every month set aside for a barbecue where we announce the winners of the previous month,” he said.
“The NSW Par 3 Championship is held at the course every June too and we have a club presentation night at the Three Swallows Hotel in November plus a Christmas Fun Day with lunch and prizes on the Saturday before Christmas.
“Shane Ellery is happy to provide lessons on the weekend or during the week and has helped train a lot of women; though we don’t have many at the moment as they tend to move on to the local ladies clubs.”
Describing Sefton Golf Club as a great, little group, Geoff added: “Everyone’s a friend here, most of us play at other clubs during the week but our games on Saturdays are special.”
