Club invites mums to have ball

WITH most senior teams making the finals and other teams featuring some of the best six and seven-year-olds around, Riverwood Legion JRLC fielded nine teams last year and look to have more for the upcoming winter season.

A family-oriented junior rugby league club that had the very first all-female team in the district, they play at Riverwood Park in Coleridge Street, with a positions available in the Under 6s-11s, girls league tag 13s-15s, over 35 mens league tag and the womens tackle footy side.
“We have an amazing bunch of women who are ready to hit the park but they need more players,” Club Vice President George Anagnostou said.
“It’s a great way to get physically and mentally fit and form friendships,” he said.
Single mum of four, Tumanako Walters also cares for her elderly parents and says she looks forward to training and playing every week as it gives her a break.
“Riverwood Legion is a second family,” she said.
“All the women are so friendly and very understanding if I’ve got to look after my parents or kids.
“If you need help, there is always someone there to lend a hand.”
She said it was important for mums to grab time for themselves.
“I’ve also lost weight and feel good mentally when I’m playing; I bring my kids along and they run around with the other children and have a lot of fun,” she said.
“It’s better than them being stuck at home playing video games.”
With training on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6.30pm, new players or those interested in finding out more can just turn up or call George on 0435 730 484 for further info.
