Club honours original culture with indigenous jersey

GETTING the jump ahead of NAIDOC Week celebrations in July 2022, Holroyd Rangers have debuted an ‘indigenous jersey’ after engaging Aboriginal artists to come up with a design that reflected the original culture of the area.

Club President Danny Rizk says the design features ‘possum footprints’ which is the totem animal for Guildford.
“It’s a stunning effect and despite only arriving a few days ago, we have already had calls from people outside of the club wanting to place orders for them,” he said.
“Everyone loves them, we didn’t realise the impact that they would have.”
Worn by the X-League 1 and 2 teams as well as the Ladies Division 1, the jerseys will also be front and centre at feature matches played at Melita Stadium next season.
“We had a special weekend presentation of the jerseys to Life Member John Nash, Councillor Ola Hamed and State MP for Granville and Shadow Sports Minister Julia Finn,” Risk said.
Booming in numbers since he took over in 2019, the Rangers are on track to grow even more in 2022 and become one of the largest in the district.
With training already underway for some of the seniors teams, registrations will open in January for all younger players.
