Club forms school super rock band to support stars at show

AS a way to showcase the amazing talent in local schools and promote live music events, a ‘School Super Rock Band’ has been formed to perform as the support act at the ‘1979 Hits’ show at Canterbury Hurlstone Park RSL Club on Saturday, July 27.

With the club’s vision ‘Proud to Belong’ and its goal to support connected communities, the process of forming this band involved students from the local public schools auditioning across three sessions.
This was run by professional musicians who have selected 10 students from Canterbury Boys High, Canterbury Girls High, Dulwich Hill High and Wilkins Primary schools, who are now rehearsing to perform four hit songs from ‘1979’.
Running the program are Joseph Calderazzo (Jenny Morris band), Natasha Stuart (Tina Arena band) and Hugh Wilson (Lenny Kravitz band), with one saying: “The songs in the show – Girl Talk, Rudy, Fire and Since You’ve Been Gone – were released 40 years ago, yet remain fresh and timeless; it was a magic year in music. They’ll have you singing and dancing along, and feeling like you’re back livin’ in the 70’s. You don’t want to miss this!”
The show will also feature Spencer Jones (The Voice), Tim Moxey (The Voice, X-Factor), Susannah Mirana, Rosita Vai (NZ Idol winner) plus a six-piece band to deliver superb renditions of classics by The Doobie Brothers, Styx, Barbra Streisand, Donna Summer, The Knack, Nicolette Larson and many more.
An all ages show, you can bring younger members to give them a taste of music in the late 70s.
Tickets: $30 (members), $35 (visitors) and $10 (students) from chprsl.com.au or call 9559 0000.
