He said the church had emergency funds but nowhere near enough to cover the full cost and as such, was calling on corporate and community donations – via a gofundme page – to help foot the bill.
Needing to move fast, he said the rusted flat areas of the roof were in immediate danger of leaking into the foundations of the building.
“These need to be reconstructed at an angle without damaging the stained glass windows,” he said.
The small but growing church of about 40 parishioners, also cares for a diverse range of community groups such as LifeBlood, line dancing, the Portuguese Church congregation, election polling and family groups, seeking an affordable place for birthdays and Christmas parties, who use the facilities on a regular basis.
“Without fixing the roof, the support of these communities and their activities would need to cease,” he said.
“We will be applying for a loan but it’s doubtful we can borrow the amount of money we need as we are only a small church and that’s why we are asking businesses and the wider community to consider donating to this worthwhile venture and help keep us alive.”

THEIR first quote to repair the 70-year-old church roof was $100,000 but while Clemton Park Baptist Church Pastor Michael Pippett is confident of getting a cheaper quote, he knows the work required is extensive.
