Chinese Op Store opens its doors in a nation first

IN what is thought to be one of Australia’s first Chinese Op Shops, the Inner Journey store has opened its doors in Padstow.

An initiative of the Grace Chinese Christian Church, the Op Shop is selling unopened or undamaged brand-name items at reduced prices, including books, toys, shoes, menswear, children’s clothing, women’s accessories like bags, belts, scarves and jewellery, and kitchenware.
As well as the Op Shop which is open Monday to Friday, 10am-4pm, and Saturday, 10am-1pm, there is a pantry onsite where people can take what they need and give what they can plus garage sale days at the back of the store on Wednesdays and Saturdays, 10am-1pm.
Discounted pre-loved and second-hand items are the garage sale stars, with Store Manager Julie Tran saying it’s a fantastic opportunity to find some “treasure”.
She said funds raised would be used to expand problem gambling counselling services and to help support the disadvantaged in the community.
“We welcome donations of any pristine or pre-loved items for the store and residents should bring them in to Inner Journey at 8 Padstow Parade, Padstow, or contact us to arrange collection; we cannot accept items left outside the store or garage,” she said.
“Our shop relies on volunteer support so if you have some spare time to lend a hand, please get in touch.”
