Children, teens invited to free game of hockey

OFFERING training and games to players aged five to 80 years, Bankstown Sports Hockey Club is inviting people of all ages to give it a go or register for the summer hockey season.

The club’s Chris Deer, who has been playing hockey for 25 years, said that once you learn the basics, you have heaps of fun.
“Bankstown has the friendliest club you’ll find anywhere,” he said.
“After training or playing, we hang out and have a chat, while the younger players have a ball just running around with their friends.”
Chris said the game was always evolving in order to make it as safe as possible.
“While you can get some bruises, it is rare to be seriously injured,” he said.
Children aged five to 11 years can turn up for Minkies Hockey on Saturdays from 9.15am and get some free coaching on the grass field at Bankstown Hockey Field in Mount Street, Georges Hall.
Those aged under 16 are invited to try out the game for free on Wednesdays, from 6.30pm, with the summer hockey competition games ($10 fee applies) for all ages held after that and starting on November 8 for six weeks before recommencing in mid-January.
“We are running these summer hockey programs for new players to learn some basics, get some fitness and more importantly to have fun,” Chris said.
