Children invited to come and try hockey

ENJOYED on every continent and the third most spectated sport at the London Olympics, hockey is also ideal for children to learn.

A non-contact sport yet a fantastic cardiovascular workout, it greatly improves hand-eye co ordination, is fun and sociable and about the only sport where there is no impact on your body – only on the stick.
Sydney Uni Hockey’s Junior Development Officer Jimmy Crabb is offering free ‘Come and Try Hockey’ sessions every Wednesday, 5.30-6.30pm, at their new international Bruce Pryor hockey field on the corner of East Street and Weeroona Road, Lidcombe.
This opportunity comes after he conducted a five-week program at St John’s Catholic School in Auburn for all students from K-6.
“The kids absolutely loved it and really nailed all the basic skills like dribbling, receiving, passing and scoring,” he said.
“We’ve decided to give the opportunity to try hockey to which ever other young people, from ages seven and over, would like to try.
“Most people usually are amazed when they discover our wonderful new hockey field here at Lidcombe; it’s a real dream to play on.”
Jimmy said hockey was the kind of game you could learn as a child and play it right up to your 70s.
“There’s a level for everyone to play and we offer here a safe, nurturing environment; our club is keen to keep the days free so it’s affordable for families and give everyone the opportunity to have a go.”
All equipment is provided and new or current boys and girls are welcome.
