A business and service support project that aims to eliminate barriers for people with disability when shopping, using services or doing activities, Zero Barriers was developed by The Multicultural Network in 2017, marking the beginning of a transformative approach to disability access and inclusion.
During that first year, Zero Barriers worked with over 40 businesses, clubs and services to educate about disability inclusion and offered them tips for low cost or no-cost solutions to become more accessible to their customers with disability.
There are now over 200 businesses involved.
Goodstart Centre Director Alison Kiel says the staff are highly trained and experienced.
Early intervention provides young children who have a disability or developmental delay with the supports they need, as early as possible.
“We have access to early intervention specialists who work with us and families and give them strategies to practice with their child in everyday activities and routines,” she said.
“We’ve had children attending in wheelchairs and are extremely wheelchair friendly with ramps, disabled parking, a big yard and more.
“We take pride in being inclusive and accessible for all and are very thankful for the award.”
Childcare group win for zero barriers
A CHILDCARE centre which specialises in early intervention and giving each child the best start in life regardless of abilities, not-for-profit Goodstart Bankstown last week was rewarded with a Zero Barriers Business Excellence Award.
