Cherry Blossom Festival back to celebrate Japanese culture

AUBURN Botanic Gardens will be in full bloom when the Sydney Cherry Blossom Festival returns with a jam-packed program over nine days in August.

For only two weeks of the year, The Sydney Cherry Blossom Festival, which has become one of Sydney’s most Instagrammable and favourite flower festivals, has attracted thousands of people to the gardens to experience the rare spectacle of cherry blossom trees also known as ‘Sakura’ in full bloom and experience a ‘Slice of Japan’ in Western Sydney.
Cumberland Mayor Lisa Lake said the festival (August 19-27) would be a celebration of Japanese culture, traditions and food to mark the Cherry Blossom trees coming into bloom.
“This festival is a one of its kind, offering visitors an opportunity to experience a taste of Japan’s food, culture and traditions while exploring Cumberland’s beautiful gardens and attractions,” Mayor Lake said.
The festival will feature a bumper program including a festival favourite, a nine-hole mini golf course, alongside George and Noriko who will be taking centre stage with their blend of blues and traditional Japanese music, Japanese Taiko drums, Origami workshops, hula hoopers, traditional Japanese dancing, Ikebana demonstrations (flower arranging) and a range of DJs playing Japanese City Pop music and more.
The Japanese Food Village will take your tastebuds on a culinary journey, while a new addition this year will be the Izakaya Bar featuring a range of Japanese inspired drinks, mocktails, beer, wine, Sake and cocktails served in glasses made of ice.
Visitors will also be able to take part in the Cherry Trail, where they could soak up the atmosphere and enjoy experiencing more than 100 trees in bloom.
