Charity to offer young work after win

BANKSTOWN charity Humanity Matters has received a $26,000 donation from global digital operations giant PagerDuty after 242 employees competed against each other in a STEP-tember challenge.

A not-for-profit community organisation, Humanity Matters aims to address the alienation of marginalised, street-frequenting young people.
It supports them to reconnect with family, school, employment and the community.
The team will use the cash to convert the Humanity Matters food truck into a commercially operating business and provide young people with real-world skills and work experience.
It will provide wages through a legal income, which will allow young people to progress independently and learn basic soft skills such as following directions, working within a team and communication.
Humanity Matters CEO Mary Malak is delighted with the donation.
“Thank you so much, PagerDuty, we are humbled,” she said.
“To see their idea of a step challenge materialise and how they all got behind this to raise this phenomenal amount of money, will change the lives of so many who have copped a pretty rough deal in their lives so far. Over 100 young people over the next 12 months will be given the skills, confidence, self belief and support to secure long-term stable employment, dramatically changing the trajectory of their lives.”
