With a group of likeminded individuals, Melissa then registered a charity Vera Vitis (‘true vine’ in Latin) to fundraise and provide relief by sending medication, hospital aid kits, food, clothing and other necessities to those experiencing poverty overseas.
Inspired by Our Lady of Guadalupe who is credited with bringing blessings to people around the world, Melissa said that since getting underway in 2022, they had been able to help countless people and had joined forces with a sister charity in Lebanon.
Residents are invited to support their efforts at a Gala Dinner on Friday, September 20, 6.30-11.30pm, at Clarence House in Belmore.
“Along with dazzling entertainers, attendees can take part in auctions featuring many must- have items,” Melissa said.
“These include boots worn by Bulldogs Captain Stephen Crichton in his August 4 match at Belmore, a Bulldogs jersey signed by the 2024 side, a Parramatta Eels’ signed team jersey from 2020, a cedar tree featuring a bone of St Charbel, a sketch of St Charbel and a Cristiano Ronaldo soccer boot.”
Also up for grabs will be a mosaic of The Last Supper, Mike Tyson’s signed boxing glove, original print of the painting depicting the soldiers coming to take Jesus from the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus’ crown of thorns inlaid with flowers from Bethlehem, a Lionel Messi signed soccer ball, a Conor McGregor signed boxing glove, a Taylor Swift framed photo collage, day spa vouchers, jewellery and many more fascinating items that would make the perfect gift or keepsake.
Tickets: $150 a person includes a mezze plate, entree, main meal, dessert and unlimited beer, wine and soft drinks, with all welcome.
