Charities battling to help needy

THEY’RE not operating any onsite programs at the moment but community groups and charities are busier than ever trying to help those doing it the hardest in lockdown.

Chester Hill Neighbourhood Centre Manager Dale Donadel says there have been a lot more requests for food and help with gas, water, electrical and Telstra bills.
‘We have been trying to source food vouchers as our supplies have been reduced to just cans,” she said.
“A lot of residents have lost their jobs and some of those who are on temporary visas can’t get the Covid Disaster Relief payment or any Centrelink so it’s much tougher for them.
“We are doing our best to source more food and looking at all the options everyday just like everyone else.”
